The Association of Third World Studies serves to coordinate on an
international scale the interests and activities of persons who perceive
the imperative need for improved understanding of Third World peoples,
problems and issues. Membership includes academics, practitioners in
the area of Third World development, employees of government agencies,
and diplomats. ATWS has chapters in the Americas, Asia and Africa.
ATWS objectives include providing ongoing open forums; promoting
faculty and student development; presenting appropriate awards for work
in the area of Third World studies; sponsoring activities which bring
together interested parties; and promoting the enhancement of the
quality of life of Third World peoples through application of research
findings.
