Global Area & Thematic Initiative Awards (GATI)

GATI announces and requests proposals for its Grants Program for 2006-2007. Proposals may request as much as $20,000 per year for up to three years of support with some matching from departments and colleges. GATI is an effort of MSU international and area centers, with support from the Office of the Dean of ISP and the Provost office, to foster comparative and thematically oriented multi-disciplinary programs of research and curricular development which are likely to bring national prominence to MSU in international and area studies.

Two Tenure-track positions - Boston University

The African Studies Center at Boston University, is seeking to fill two tenure-track positions in African languages to begin September 2007, pending approval. It is interested in candidates who can provide leadership in developing regional specializations in West African and in South African languages. Native or near-native fluency in African languages, strong research potential, and completion of the PhD at the time of appointment are required. Teaching experience in one or more African languages is preferred. Interested applicants should send a cover letter, CV, recent teaching evaluations, a published paper or writing sample, and three letters of recommendation to Prof. James Pritchett, Director, or Prof. James McCann, search chair at the African Studies Center, Boston University, 270 Bay State Rd., Boston Massachusetts 02215. Applications received by December 15, 2007 will receive first priority. Boston University is an Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity employer. Preliminary interviews will be held at the African Studies Association Meetings in San Francisco, 15-18 November 2006.
