The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) and the Graduate Studies Division of the University of Sussex, Brighton, UK, together form the largest European centre for graduate studies in development issues. Opportunities for study include:

a one year MA in Gender and Development; a two-year coursework MPhil in Development Studies; the supervision of students working for the degree of MPhil or DPhil by research.

IDS also offers a programme of short courses on key areas of development policy and analysis. Among those scheduled for 1994/95 are:

Subsaharan Africa: through structural adjustment to transformation (being held in Ghana); Bibliographic information on development; Food security in Africa: policy planning and interventions; Statistics for development policy; Implementing health for all.

Probable courses for 1995/96 include:

Rural research and rural policy; Women, men and development: a course for all concerned with gender equality within social change
