UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA - AFRICAN STUDIES CENTER
INTRODUCTION

INTRODUCTION

This resource guide is intended to help undergraduates and others interested in using Penn s libraries for the purpose of study of and research on Africa. In it you will find reference materials that will help point you in more specific directions.

The guide is very much a work-in-progress. Some planned future additions include: a comprehensive list of Penn s African language holdings, including readers, grammars, textbooks, linguistic studies, etc.; a full list of dissertations on Africa available in Penn s libraries; addresses of and contacts at relevant departments in Africa, beginning with History Departments; and a guide to Penn s special collections.

Your comments are very welcome and will help make this site more useful to you and other users. Please send any comments to Elisa Forgey jvon@sas.upenn.edu

In creating this guide, I have relied heavily on Haverford and Bryn Mawr s Resource Guide for African Studies compiled last year and available through their libraries.

Please note that VP designates Van Pelt library. Any additional necessary information regarding a book s location is given after the library name (for example, Museum Reference).
