Organization for Social Science Research in Eastern and
Southern Africa
(OSSREA)

OSSREA was established in April 1980, held its First
Congress in June 1983, and celebrated its Tenth Anniversary, in conjunction
with its Third Congress, in Kampala, Uganda, in May 1990. OSSREA's
headquarters is in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on the premises of the main
campus of Addis Ababa University.
Its current membership is drawn from 11 countries, but its constitution
opens membership to social scientists in 18 countries of Eastern and
Southern Africa: Botswana, Comoros Islands, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya,
Lesotho, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Somalia, South
Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and
institutional membership is open to all institutions, within or outside
the region, engaged in the promotion of research in the social sciences
in Africa.
