mission: Developing and promoting the
emergence of a distinctive African Tradition in the study of, research and
training in the Social Sciences;
Vacancy
position: EXECUTIVE SECRETARY
Place:
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia;
Qualification
and experience required:
·
A Ph.D.
degree in any branch of the Social Sciences, with an academic rank of full
professor or its equivalent;
·
A minimum
of ten years of university-level teaching and research, of which at least a
period of five years has been spent in Eastern and/or Southern Africa;
·
A
recognizable record of scholarly publishing in the form of books, monographs,
journal articles, etc.;
·
Substantial
experience in fund raising and dealing with international donor organizations;
·
Proven
record of formulation and write-up of project proposals and successful
implementation of projects;
·
Proven
record of academic and administrative leadership;
·
Intimate
knowledge of OSSREA’s operations and demonstrable ability to mobilise the
Eastern and Southern African research community;
·
Excellent
proficiency in written and spoken English.
Major duties
and responsibilities:
1.
Providing
intellectual leadership;
2.
Providing
strategic initiatives and vision, and enhancing sustainability of OSSREA;
3.
Expanding
OSSREA’s network within its mandate areas and forging closer links between the
Secretariat and national chapters;
4.
Managing
the activities of the OSSREA Secretariat
5.
Recruiting
Secretariat staff;
6.
Expanding
funding sources and managing financial resources;
7.
Planning
and administering research projects;
8.
Initiating
and formulating project proposals and securing donor support for implementation
of the projects;
9.
Securing
and providing material resources and facilities for an expanding organisation;
Contract duration: A three-year contract, renewable for one more term
upon satisfactory performance;
Salary:
Commensurate with qualification and experience;
