Minor in African Studies

Minor Requirements | 

The minimum requirement for the major is 6 c.u.

1) Proseminar : AFST 190 “Introduction to Africa” (1 c.u.)

• Offered each Fall semester
• This course must be taken at Penn.

2) Five African Studies courses (5c.u.)

• 3 of the 5 courses must be taken at Penn.
• 4 of the 5 courses must have 100% Africa content.
• 1 of the 5 courses may have at least 25% Africa content.
• Humanities courses include: AFRC, ARTH, COML, EALC, ENGL, FOLK, FREN, HIST, LING, MUSC, NELC, PHIL, RELS, ROML
• Social science courses include: ANTH, DEMG, ECON, GSOC, HSSC, NURS, PSCI, SOCI

3) Optional Senior thesis written on an Africa-related topic under the supervision of an African Studies faculty member. (1 c.u.)
