General description
X. caffra is a medium sized bushy tree with thorny white stems and branches. Fruits are yellow in colour when ripened (see picture below).

Edible part(s), preparation methods and palatability
The fruits are edible. But the skin has to be taken off, then the flesh together with the kernel are eaten. The fruits are picked whenever ripe and mostly eaten by children. In food shortage periods adults will also consume the fruit.

Agroecology
Commonly grows in mid- and lowland areas.

Propagates by seeds.
