General description
Is a thorny evergreen medium to big tree.

Edible part(s), preparation methods and palatability
Fruits are red in color when ripe and need to be rubbed for getting the flesh of the seed softened prior to consumption. The stones of the fruits are thrown after the flesh is eaten up. Even in normal times children pick the fruit and enjoy it. Monkeys are also competing for the fruits.

Agroecology
Among other areas, it is commonly found in the dry agroclimatic zones of Konso, North Omo, shoa, Sidamo, Hararghe and Gojam.

Propagates by seeds and root suckers.

Remarks
The sap is traditionally used for human eye treatment.
