The Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) invites proposals from researchers for possible inclusion in its new multinational working group (MWG) on the theme of ãAfrica and Its Diasporaä. The MGW is the flagship research vehicle employed by CODESRIA for the promotion of multi-country and multidisciplinary reflections on critical questions of concern to the African social research community. Research Seminar on Medicine in Africa will be offered by faculty from Pennâs
Africa Health Group from January 11 to April 15, 2006. The Seminar will be
coordinated by Prof. Steven Feierman of the Department of History and Sociology
of Science, University of Pennsylvania. Students who complete the seminar will
be given funding to participate in ongoing research in Africa fro 8 to 12 weeks
(or longer). Topics to be covered in the preparatory seminar include: The Social
and Cultural Context of Disease and Medicine in Africa, Epidemiological and
Demographic Issues, Problems of Infectious Disease, Disease and Child Health,

FELLOWSHIP: AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIP

AAUW International fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research to
women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and
postgraduate study at accredited institutions is supported. The Foundation will
award 57 fellowships for the 2006-07 academic year. Six of these awards are
available to members of International Federation of University Women affiliate
organizations. These fellowship
recipients may study in any country other than their own. The Foundation also
awards several annual Home Country Project Grants ($5,000 to $7,000 each) to
women who received AAUW Educational Foundation International Fellowships
between 2001 and 2005. These grants support community-based projects designed
to improve the lives of women and girls in the fellow's home country.

Global Youth Connect, an international human rights organization is currently
recruiting young leaders (ages 18-25) to participate in human rights delegation
during the summer of 2006. The program location is Rwanda. The program will

UNIVERSITY OF KWAZULU-NATAL: FIVE-WEEK INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL PROGRAMME (June
24-July 29, 2006)

The International School offers the educational experiences that appropriately
complement the institutionâs curriculum while adding significant cultural
dimensions to studentsâ life experiences. The programme in 2006 will run at the
Howard College campus in Durban. Courses offered are as follows: Culture &
Diversity in the Rainbow Nation (Consisting out of four modules, this course
explores language, culture, media, and political influences in modern South
Africa); Zulu Language & Culture (Learn to speak basic isiZulu in addition to
Zulu customs, art, music & history); Service Learning (In addition to a secured
and supervised placement that provides a hands-on learning experience, the
student will visit urban and rural environmental and development projects and
will be exposed to a range of social, cultural, and historical sites during
their stay). All courses offered are 16 UKZN credits per course with a maximum
of 32 (two courses) for the International School session that may be taken by
individual students. The programme is intensive and interactive, and students
have the opportunity to gain a wealth of knowledge through lectures,
out-of-class excursions, and experiential learning. The fee for the

The Communication Initiative has introduced its revamped database of global media coverage on human rights issues. This feature is part of the Communication Initiativeâs Human Rights Window. It allows for a one-stop search related to media coverage for each individual article in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
