- THE ASSOCIATION OF AFRICAN STUDIES PROGRAMS- Swahili Group Project Abroad. Coordinating institutions. An 8-week intensive advanced Swahili course in Tanzania will be offered by the Association of African Studies Programs (AASP), under the Fulbright-Hays Group Project Abroad (GPA), from June-August, pending support from the U.S. Department of Education. The course will be directed by the James S. Coleman African Studies Center, University of California Los Angeles, and the African Studies Program, University of Wisconsin-Madison. - FULBRIGHT-HAYS SEMINARS ABROAD PROGRAM. Seminar on Egypt and Zimbabwe administered from the U.S. Department of Education by the Commission for Educational and Cultural Exchange Between the U.S. of America and the Arab Republic of Egypt (The Binational Fulbright Commission). Seminar consists of 2-day pre- departure orientation in Washington, D.C. followed by a 3-week travel/study program in each country. The seminar will run from early July to mid-August, 1993. Applicants must be qualified secondary school teachers and department heads in social studies subjects, elementary school teachers (4th-6th grades) with an emphasis on social studies subjects and curriculum specialists of State or local educational agencies in social studies subjects at the secondary or elementary school levels.
- GLOBAL EXCHANGE REALITY TOURS. 1. One to three-week trips to developing countries, including South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe. African trips cost $3,000-3,500 per person. 2. Sponsoring a travel program entitled "Cultural and Social Issues in Senegal." The trip takes place from June 13-23, 1993. - UNIVERSITY OF DAR ES SALAAM, TANZANIA- Language & Program Exchange. This program offers a new language study and exchange program with the University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Students admitted to the program will spend one academic year at the University of Dar es Salaam undertaking intensive Swahili language instruction. Language instruction will constitute one-third of the academic program. Students may select courses from a variety of disciplines (politics, history, literature, art, etc.) to complete their schedules. DATES: October 1, 1992 - June 10, 1993.
