FOLLOWING the furore surrounding the recent arrest of opposition leader Saleh Kebzabo, political
parties called for the dissolution of the National Security Agency to be replaced by another body that
meets the standards set by the National Sovereign Confer ence.
In a document which also called for a round-table conference on national reconciliation, the parties
denounced the restoration of media censorship.
ZAIRE A COURT of Appeal in Brussels ordered the seizure of the assets of Air Zaire which went
bankrupt. The company is said to owe $55m to its creditors.
BURUNDI OAU monitors strike
MEMBERS of the OAU Military Observation Mission to Burundi went on a three-day strike in protest
against death threats made against them by armed gangs.
The 67-member mission, comprising army officers, engineers and medical doctors, has been working
in tandem with Burundian military officers to restore peace among the population.
The mission has already been attacked twice: once in the north western area of Cibitoke, near the
Zairean border, where one Burkinabe soldier was killed; and recently in the central town of Karusi
where an ambush took place.
TANZANIA
closed its borders with Burundi on the grounds that Burundian soldiers had moved into its
territory.
