Solar Resources, a U. S. company that designs renewable-energy system components, is establishing Gopher and e-mail file archiving and retrieval services for its rural manufacturing network (RuralNet) through a well-established U. S. Internet service provider. By fax, mail and shortly the Internet, RuralNet offers rural developing-country manufacturers we work with access to technical and operational assistance and materials, inexpensive software, product and pricing information, etc.

We would like to offer other organizations dealing with rural developing-country manufacturers a cost-effective way through RuralNet's Gopher and e-mail services to make their products and services and/or information on them accessible 24 hours a day to current and prospective clients/customers/contractors. We make this offer as a means to establish an Internet site comprised of a wide range of useful, non- competitive services and products - as well as an on-line software and text resource library - geared to and accessible by rural manufacturers, development workers and other relevant parties.

We expect to charge organizations putting their products and services on RuralNet US$50 to US$75 per month, depending on how many organizations join this service and the anticipated level of activity. This charge would include 250K of on-line data storage (about 25 one-page documents) with additional data storage charges of around US$7.50 per month per 1 MB (about 100 one-page documents). Participating organizations would still need to maintain separate on-line accounts where non-file retrieval e-mail messages sent to them at RuralNet would be automatically routed.

If you are interested in finding out more about this service, please send me your organization's name, e-mail or postal address and a short description of your product and/or service. I will forward you more detailed product and pricing information.
