This is just a quick vacation note to remind you of some important upcoming events following soon after spring break.

Thursday, March 27. William Quandt (Univ. of Virginia; formerly of the Brookings Institution). The Algerian Crisis: Is Democracy the Answer? noon-1:15 p.m. Monteith 119. Professor Quandt will also be speaking at 4 p.m. in the Dodd Center on the current situation in the Middle East.

Thursday, April 3. Kalu Kalu (Yale University). Praetorian Governance and the Crisis of Mass Political Mobilization in Nigeria. Arjona 215. 12:30 p.m.-1:45 p.m.

Saturday, April 5. Marguerite Dorn (Suffolk University Law School) and Jane Rocamora (former field officer in Rwanda for the United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights) will run a workshop on the International Criminal Court and Human Rights in Rwanda. The Thomas J. Dodd Research Center, 2:45-3:45 p.m. This workshop is part of a Conference on the International Criminal Court that will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the Dodd Center.

Thursday, April 10. Retirement Reception for Professor Ben Magubane. Co-Sponsored by the Center for Contemporary Africa Studies and the African American Cultural Center. African American Cultural Center, 4 p.m. Professor Magubane will speak about his career at UConn and his life in the South African liberation struggle. A reception will follow the various tributes to Professor Magubane.
