This site is presented by the University of Pennsylvania's: Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, the Library (SCETI), and the African Studies Center. It makes available photographic images residing in the Museum Archives that were made in 1936-37 in African Sherbro-speaking areas of Sierra Leone.
Funded by a grant from the NEH, "The Teaching & Learning about East Africa" Project (TLEAP) is a "living library"--a work in progress--of resources for teaching and learning about East Africa and about Swahili, the most widely spoken language of that region.
This project is funded by an unrestricted educational grant from Merck& Co Inc. The aim of this project is to create a single website that provides researchers, students, and the general public with resources that are integral to understanding health concerns in Africa.
