DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION: MARCH 2, 1998 WIOC announces
the availability of grant funds for faculty at Upper
Midwest Colleges. Awards of up to $400 each are available
for work at libraries in Madison or Milwaukee, researching
projects that have an international focus. The grants
may be used for travel, lodging, parking, per diem,
library copying, and miscellaneous supplies. Grants
must be used by August 1, 1998.
Preference in the 1998 competition will be given to
applicants who:
a)teach or conduct research on world areas, particularly
if the work compares perspectives across two or more
regions
OR
b)use news media or media studies in the classroom
or research, especially media coverage of international
affairs
OR
c)teach or carry out research in Journalism and Mass
Communications
Recipients will be invited to attend a WIOC conference
in Madison, WI on May 30, 1998 entitled, "From
Shanghai to Sheboygan: Local Reporting on Global Issues."
ELIGIBILITY:
Any current faculty member teaching or conducting
research at a two year, four year, or technical college
or university in the Upper Midwest is eligible. Faculty
may also apply in "teams," with each member
addressing a distinct area study. Preference will
be given to those who have not previously received
the award.
