IMPACT MALARIA SCHOLARSHIPS

Competitive scholarships are offered by Impact Malaria to Afri- can doctors to attend the Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hy- giene (DTM&H) at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. The competition is open to qualified African physicians interested in getting involved in the fight against malaria, whether at the level of high quality patient care, clinical research or control activities. Applicants will normally be expected-

  • to have a minimum of two years post-graduate clinical experi- ence
  • satisfy the requirements for attendance of the DTM&H course
  • have obtained some postgraduate qualification (for example, successful pass of Part I Examination of one of the Royal Col- leges or the country equivalent to such a degree)
  • and/or be able to show evidence of research activity in the field of malaria (published paper would be an advantage)

The scholarship award will consist of: (i) DTM&H registrations fees (currently approx. £ 3,000/ US$ 4,500); (ii) economy travel from country of residence to Liverpool; and (iii) a living al- lowance of £ 870/ US$ 1,315 per month for the duration of the three-month course.

Applicants must be resident nationals of one of the following malaria-endemic African countries: Angola, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Si- erra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, The Gambia, Uganda, Zambia or Zimbabwe.

Applications for the scholarships consist of the following docu- ments:

  • a letter of application describing the reasons for wishing to attend the course and justifying why the candidate is eligible for the scholarship
  • a completed DTM&H application form
  • a curriculum vitae (including list of publications, if any)
