Awards for Doctoral Students working on Africa, 05/04
"STATES, BOUNDARIES AND NATIONS: NEGOTIATING CITIZENSHIP IN
AFRICA"
Awards for Doctoral Students working on Africa to come to
Edinburgh, 19-20 May 2004
The Centre of African Studies' Annual International
Conference on "States, Boundaries and Nations: Negotiating
citizenship in Africa" will be taking place from lunchtime
on the 19th to 6.00 on the 20th May. A full programme is
available for consultation on CAS Website
(www.cas.ed.ac.uk).
The CAS has been given some support from the Royal African
Society/ASAUK to encourage doctoral students working in the
UK on Africa to attend the Conference, and to engage with
the approximately 100 scholars from Europe, North America,
Japan and Africa who are expected.
Students working on doctorates on subjects which are germane
to this particular conference are encouraged to apply to the
Centre.
All that is required is a maximum of one page of A4
explaining how your research would profit from exposure to
our conference. And a note from one of your supervisors
affirming your suitability.
These should both be submitted -ideally at the same mailing
- to Dr. Sara Dorman, by email only, at the following
address, as soon as possible, and not later than 30th April:
sara.dorman@ed.ac.uk
The selection committee will let applicants know almost
immediately if they have been made an award. In most cases,
the award will be a contribution to the cost of travel, or
to the cost of the conference fee or accommodation.
Applicants should keep receipts for their low cost rail or
bus fares etc.
We look forward to seeing you in Edinburgh.
