Fulbright Visiting Specialists Program:
Direct Access to the Muslim World

The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs is pleased to announce a new competition of the Fulbright Visiting Specialists Program: Direct Access to the Muslim World. This program is designed to promote understanding of the Muslim World and civilization by providing opportunities for U.S. higher educational institutions to host specialists from the Muslim World for short-term programs. This program is administered by the Council for International Exchange of Scholars (CIES). More information about CIES can be found at www.cies.org


Program Details

*Specialists come from Muslim communities in the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa and the Balkans. *Specialists will conduct intensive lecturing and public outreach activities. *This competition cycle covers proposals that take place for 3 to 6 weeks in the Winter/Spring 2006 semester only.

Eligible U.S. Higher Educational Institutions

*U.S. higher educational institutions with limited or no current programs on the Muslim world. *Liberal arts institutions, minority-serving institutions and community colleges are encouraged to apply and are given preference for awards. *Applications from single institutions and consortia of institutions are accepted. *Institutions that previously received a scholar under this program are not eligible.
