FDC: Internship Position in Mozambique, 10/98



Internship position with Mrs. Graca Machel, President, Foundation for Community Development.

Background:The Foundation for Community Development is a private non-profit grantmaking foundation that aims to build partnerships for overcoming poverty in Mozambique by strengthening and supporting community development efforts.

Responsibilities:The primary responsibilities of the intern will be to: 1) Assist Mrs. Machel at the FDC with correspondence in English including invitations for speaking engagements, media requests, endorsements and research queries; 2) Reply to requests for information and cooperation/information sharing with partners and like minded organizations with which the FDC is involved at the local, regional and international level; 3) Conduct background research for various interventions that Mrs. Machel or other FDC staff may be invited to make at regional and international conferences. 4) Other projects upon request.Because of Mrs. Machelís busy travel schedule the internship is most compatible with outside research or writing work.

Duration:Applicants able to commit for a period of at least six months will be given priority although if only available to shorter periods of time are still encouraged to apply.

Work Hours: The position will be at least half time with many weeks being full time depending on Mrs. Machelís schedule.

Location:The offices of the FDC in Maputo, Mozambique

Requirements:Applicants must speak, read, and write English fluently, preferably as a mother tongue and have knowledge of Africa and development issues.A graduate student studying international development/relations will be given preference. Knowledge of Portuguese language is a definite plus as it may be necessary for some projects.Applicants must be self-sustaining and support their own travel, VISA, and living expenses.The FDC will cover housing costs in Maputo (rent, electricity and water)
