CHPSS Media Fellowships in Health for Nigerians, 04/00



Centre for Health Policy and Strategic Studies (CHPSS) is a private, non-profit organization committed to the ideals of promoting better health for all Nigerians through advocacy, research, capacity building and the promotion of health communication as a tool for social change.

At this critical phase in the evolution of a just, stable and healthy Nigeria, CHPSS recognizes the impact that communication will play in shaping the future. Consequently, it is pleased to establish Media Fellowships in Health for purposes of encouraging the development of health journalism and health communication as special tools for achieving social, behavioural and public health changes in Nigeria. Suitable individuals are invited to apply for the Fellowships.

WHAT THE FELLOWSHIPS PROVIDE: Fellowships are in two categories:
* Junior fellowship carries a stipend up to N100,000.00 for three months.
* Senior fellowship carries a stipend up to N500,000.00 for one year.

Fellows must be in current employment and their respective employers must commit to supporting them throughout the duration of the Fellowship.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY? Any journalist, editor, producer, communication lecturer or author specializing in health reporting / communication or wanting to so specialize, is eligible. There is no age restriction but typically, Fellows would have at least three to ten years relevant work experience depending on whether the applicant is applying for the Junior or Senior Fellowship. More Junior Fellowships would be awarded in keeping with the capacity-building objective of the Centre.

HOW TO APPLY: There is no application form. To apply, send the following materials to the address shown below:

A detailed letter describing:
* The category of fellowship applied for, i.e. Junior or Senior
* Your reasons for applying
* Your career goals and the project you wish to complete in the fellowship period
* Project budget with detailed breakdown (Note: Fellowship stipend cannot be used for capital purchases or to pay wages and salaries. It is made available to cover travel, lodging, per diem or out-of-pocket expenses incurred in the ordinary course of fellowship activities)
* Your curriculum vitae or resume, two examples of your most recent/previous work and a list of your publications.

WHEN TO APPLY: Applications for the Fellowships are welcome at any-time. The final date for receipt of application for the year 2000 fellowships is Friday, April 28, 2000.
