VIDEO BOOK PROJECT
DEPARTMENT OF AFRICAN

UNIVERSITY OF SWAZILAND
SWAZILAND
The Video Film phenomenon has become a force to
be reckoned with on the African entertainment scene. However, there is still
a dearth of literature on it. We are hereby calling for papers that will form
chapters in a book about the African Video Film as Popular Art. The
book is meant to dissect the question of the African video with an intent
to providing substantial literature which would aid in elevating the form
from its present image as a pariah and a mere craft to the level of a respectable
and viable art form. The following theme and sub-themes are meant to serve
as guide for writers:
Theme: The Video Film in Africa: An Art and Socio-Political
Treatise
Sub-Themes:
►Historical background of the video film in various
countries in Africa
►Aesthetics of the video film
►The Economics of the video film in Africa (funding,
marketing etc.)
►Themes of the video film in Africa
►Violence and the video film in Africa
►The policy environment of the video film in Africa
►The video film’s
reception in other African countries outside its country of original production

have not been accommodated in the sub-themes outlined above.
