Workshop for Women Journalists Reporting on HIV/AIDS, 04/03

SciDevNet <http://www.scidev.net>, a website devoted to providing in- formation and resources about science and technology for users in de- veloping countries, would like to locate journalists in East Africa who would be interested in their forthcoming workshop for women jour- nalists and health communicators on "The use of information and com- munication technologies (ICT) for reporting on HIV/AIDS".

The workshop will be held in Kampala, Uganda, in April 2003, and is funded by UNESCO (including air fares and accommodation). The empha- sis will be on improving ICT skills for reporting about new research into HIV-related disease and treatment, including vaccines, drugs, and microbicides.

The organisers would like to determine who may benefit from such a workshop, what training they would find most useful, and other or- ganisations they should approach. They will be advertising the work- shop at the beginning of December.

Among other skills, the workshop content is likely to include the use of search engines to access background information, organisations and experts, the use of "bookmarks" for favourite websites, and email to receive "news alerts" about new developments. Other features that workshop participants may find useful would be to establish and/or participate in electronic discussion groups and information networks.
