Symposium on War and Peace--State and Territory, Temple
University, 09/04
On Wed., September 29th, Temple University will be hosting a symposium on
the theme of "War and Peace--State and Territory: A Look at Current Ideas in
Political Geography. It will be held in the Feinstone Lounge, Sullivan
Hall, on Berks Mall (one block north of Montgomery) between Broad and 13th
Streets. The symposium begins at 10 AM with a presentation by Al-Hassan
Conteh and Marilyn Silberfein on "The Mano River Border Region in a Decade
of Conflict", followed by papers by two political geographers--Colin Flint
from Penn State and Alex Murphy from the University of Oregon. They will be
speaking, respectively, on "The Geography of Terrorism" and The Relationship
of Territorial Ideology and Interstate Conflict". In the afternoon,
beginning at 1:50 PM, Jeffrey Herbst, Dept. of Political Science, Princeton
University will speak on "Boundary Changes in the Context of Conflict
Resolution: Examples from Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia and the DROC".
Discussants include: Geoffrey Herrera (Temple) and Ambassador Joseph
Melrose(Ursinus) for the morning sessions and Harvey Glickman (Haverford) and
Mark>Pollack (Temple) in the afternoon. You are welcome to attend any or all
