Kiswahili Language, Literature and Modern Thought (3-5th Oct. 2002)
Kiswahili language and Literature have undergone a lot of changes and made great strides in the last few decades. It is on the basis of this realization that the Department of Kiswahili (CEES) in collaboration with the Department of Linguistics and African Languages (CHSS) University of Nairobi and in conjunction with CHAKITA-Kenya is organizing an International conference on the above theme. The gist and raison d'etre of the above conference is to trace, map and evaluate such trajectories and strides. The conference will cover issues relating to the language and its literature, as well as their studies within the context of wider/global scholarship and discourses. The issues cannot be divorced from dissemination of knowledge/research findings; hence the need to also examine publishing in or on Kiswahili language and Literature.
The conference languages are English and Kiswahili, although participants are encouraged in light of the theme of the conference, to use the later. Abstracts, not exceeding 250 words, on one of the following topics and manifestly interpreting the theme, should be submitted to the undersigned not later than 15th May 2002.
