South Eastern Regional Seminar in African Studies, Spring
2006
The Coordinators of the South Eastern Regional Seminar in African
Studies (SERSAS) are pleased to announce an initial Call for papers for
its
upcoming conference and meeting to be hosted by Gardner-Webb University
in
beautiful Boiling Springs, North Carolina from March 31-April 1, 2006.
This CFP is open to any discipline and field in African Studies for
written papers by academics or advanced graduate student. We welcome
proposals
for any topic, but we would be particularly interested in papers related
to
the themes for the meeting:
Commodities and Cosmopolitan Identities in Africa
and
Politics, Exile and Banishment.
SERSAS prides itself on being an informal group of collegial scholars
who hold biannual meetings at members host institutions. The meetings are
informal and provide ample time for discussion of papers. They are ideal
venues to get to know scholars of African Studies in the Southeast. We
particularly welcome the attendance and participation of advanced
graduate students, and can accommodate work-in-progress panels for them.
The meeting will commence with an evening reception on Fri March 31 and
conclude following paper presentations and a general meeting on Sat. 1
April. There are no registration fees for the conference, but each
person attending is required to be a current member of SERSAS (annual
membership dues of $20 are collected at the meeting, and are used to
offset the cost of refreshments) and to cover their own costs for travel
and accommodation. SERSAS remains a participant-driven organization with
no on-going institutional support and so it cannot offer any financial
support for
participants or presenters.
