"Ethnic and Religious Conflict in Cross-Cultural Perspective"
A Conference to be held at
Ohio University, Athens, Ohio
May 18-19, 2000
Interethnic and religious conflicts have been a constant reality in the history of humankind. In the last decade, such conflicts have caused profound human suffering, including the death of an estimated two million children.
This conference seeks to understand the fundamental underpinnings and social implications of inter and intra-group conflict by applying a comparative interdisciplinary and interregional analytical approach. The conference will seek to determine if there are common denominators across the different conflicts. By contributing to the understanding of conflict, we hope to make management, resolution and prevention of conflict more effective.
The Ohio University Center for International Studies extends an invitation to graduate students to participate in this interdisciplinary conference. Our intention is to provide graduate students with an opportunity to present their work in a professional academic atmosphere. Graduate students from any college or university are welcome, but those from Midwestern institutions are particularly encouraged. We welcome submissions from all interested students.
SUBMISSIONS: Please submit a short abstract, not exceeding one page, single spaced, to Polly Sandenburgh, Interethnic and Religious Conflict Conference, Ohio University, Center for International Studies, Burson House, Athens, OH45701 by March 31, 2000.
