CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: SPECIAL ISSUE IN HONOR OF BONIFACE I. OBICHERE

The editorial board of _Ufahamu_, the Journal of the African Activist Association at UCLA, is inviting submissions to an issue in memory of our late professor, Dr. Boniface I. Obichere, who passed away in March 1997. He served as a mentor to countless students and exposed countless more to African history and cultures during his approximately thirty-year career as a professor of African history at UCLA. Many of his students have served on the editorial board of Ufahamu during its nearly three decades of publication. We have therefore decided to honor his life and work by soliciting his former students, colleagues, and friends to contribute to this special issue.

We welcome scholarly articles, commentaries, review articles, film and book reviews, and poetry which relate to any aspect of Dr. Obichere's research and teaching interests. We have identified these as including, but not limited to, the following:

- West African precolonial history (especially Asante and Dahomey),
- West African colonial history,
- the anti-colonial struggle and African independence movements, - education in Africa,
- the media in Africa,
- Pan-Africanism,
- the African diaspora, and
- African leaders on the continent and in the diaspora

Manuscripts should be no more than 30 pages, clearly typed, and double-spaced, and formatted to the Chicago Manual of Style. Please include a brief abstract and a short biographical note, listing your position, academic or organizational affiliation, and any previous publications. All submissions for editorial board consideration should be postmarked by MONDAY, 15 MAY 2000. All submissions should be addressed to the following:

This issue will provide an opportunity for us to honor the memory of Dr. Obichere, a teacher and a friend to many of us, and we look forward to your contributions.

Please do not hesitate to contact the guest editor of this volume, Dr. Dennis Laumann, at <dlaumann@ucla.edu> should you have any questions and/or suggestions.
