2007 New York African Studies Association (NYASA) Conference,
03/07
The Organizing Committee of the 2007 New York African Studies Association
(NYASA) Conference, African Peoples: The Last Fifty Years and Beyond, to be
held April 13 - 14, 2007, is pleased to issue this call for presentations.
Proposals covering all geographic and linguistic zones of the African
continent are welcome, so are all contrastive or comparative studies linking
Africa and the African Diasporas. Reading time for papers is limited to 20
minutes
The holding of the 2007 NYASA Conference coincides with the 50th anniversary
of the independence of Ghana (March 6, 1957), unarguably the first
sub-Saharan African country to acquire independence from colonial rule. This
provides an appropriate opportunity for the conference to reflect on the
issues and challenges facing African peoples on the continent and in the
Diaspora. The following themes are illustrative of the many topics to be
addressed:
a.. Language, Literature and the Arts
b.. Technology & the Environment
c.. Religion and Spiritual Practices
d.. Gender Challenges: Socio-Economic, Political and Cultural
e.. Political Economy and Globalization
f.. Political Trends and Challenges
g.. Pan-Africanism and the African Diaspora
h.. Health
i.. From the OAU to African Union: Promises and Practices
j.. Business and Economic Development
k.. Media
l.. Education/Literacy
m.. Demographic Transitions, including Migration and Refugees
Proposals consisting of a title and 1 page abstract of presentation received
by December 31, 2006, will be given priority. Confirmation of acceptance
will be issued by January 31, 2007. Send your email submissions to:
