South Africa: Education Abroad in the Rainbow Nation, 04/01

A NAFSA: Association of International Educators Workshop

This national workshop is hosted by the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and sponsored by the Educational Information and Resources Branch of the United States Department of State. The workshop, designed for education abroad professionals, will examine the historical, political, social, and economic forces that have shaped present day South Africa, and will cover such topics as: South African governance and economy, social and environmental issues, contemporary society, education, and education abroad opportunities for U.S. students in South Africa. Participants will have the opportunity to: * Gain up-to-date information on South Africa as a destination for education abroad * Consider important factors when identifying potential partners, costs, health and safety for education abroad in South Africa * Examine South Africa's educational system * Develop tools to better evaluate possible exchange agreements with South African institutions of higher education The purpose of the workshop is to inform participants about South Africa, its history, governance, social issues, and educational system, so that they are better prepared to develop and implement international education programs. Those interested are encouraged to register early, as space is limited.
