CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES
Uganda Society and its development partners have decided to hold a conference based on the
following objectives, among others:
1.To bring together scholars, researchers and managers of tertiary and research
institutions in
Africa to share experiences and projections on the role of these institutions in the
attainment of the MDGs.
2.To initiate new and strengthen existing collaborative research activities between the
universities and other stakeholders for the attainment of the MDGs.
3.To develop a plan of action for the universities and research institutions contribution
towards the attainment of the MDGs.,
The Conference Secretariat is inviting papers that address any of these eight MDGs:
1. Eradicating extreme poverty and hunger;
2. Achieving universal primary education;
3. Promoting gender equality and empowering women;
4. Reducing child mortality;
5. Improving maternal health;
6. Combating HIV/ AIDs malaria and other diseases;
7. Ensuring environmental sustainability, and;
8. Developing a global partnership for development
Submission of Abstracts & Papers Abstracts
Abstracts not exceeding 250 words, single-spaced and 12 font size should be submitted
to the conference
Secretariat by 30th July 2006. Participants whose abstracts will be accepted will be
notified by 30th August
2006 to enable them develop the full papers.
Papers
Papers should focus on the role of research and technology transfer in addressing any
specific Millennium
Development Goal. Completed papers should be submitted electronically by 30th September
2006.

Library, Uganda Museum, Kampala or Kyambogo University, Faculty of Science, Department of
Biological
Sciences (Room S2.29) or electronically from the conference secretariat.
Conference Fees to cater for registration, conference package, tea and lunch:
Students: US $ 30, East African Region, US $ 50, Outside East African Region: US $100
