The Inter Region Economic Network (IREN) has been training journalists in East Africa on development related issues since 2003. The media events have a general objective of exposing journalists to principles of wealth generation. IREN is proud to host the 5th Eastern Africa
Media Training to include: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan and Ethiopia.

Theme Turning Africa People into a Resource

The Topics of Discussion Include:

  • Harmonization of the policy framework in Africa From policy disparity to policy parity
  • Africans turning cross border movements into a resource Getting people and products moving across African borders
  • Urbanization: creating centers of consumption From village mentality to urban mentality
  • Developing the human resource through an expanded education system Beyond natural resources to intellectual products
  • Increasing production and consumption through a reformed health sector Fighting disease to create wealth
  • Harnessing culture and politics to promote development Embracing African culture to promote an African Brand
  • Technology: The primer of a society evolution

To be eligible for this training, one must be a journalist who reports on Business and Development related topics in general. Editors and sub editors will have an added advantage.

Interested applicants should submit the following by February 14, 2007: -

  • One paragraph articulating your vision for Africa
  • CV
  • Copies of articles/ tapes of work previously done in the fields of business and development related topics.
  • Cover letter indicating media house and contacts of the immediate supervisor
