The EQUINET southern African Conference on Equity in Health on June 8 and 9 2004 at the Tropicana Hotel, Beachfront, Durban South Africa will be held with theme
"RECLAIMING THE STATE: ADVANCING PEOPLE'S HEALTH, CHALLENGING INJUSTICE".

EQUINET invites delegates who wish to present papers/posters to send in a form/ email. THIS DATE HAS BEEN EXTENDED BY REQUEST TO FEBRUARY 17th. The abstracts will be sent to the relevant workshop/session convenors and feedback will be given by end March 2004.

The conference will have plenary sessions and workshop/ parallel sessions on:

  • Challenges to Equity in Health in Southern Africa
  • Equity in health sector responses to HIV and AIDS and treatment access
  • The basis for health: food security and nutrition and essential health inputs: water, energy, sanitation
  • Human Rights as a tool to advance peoples health and health equity
  • Fair Financing in health systems
  • Confronting challenges in Health personnel
  • Strengthening community voice and agency in health systems
  • Globalisation, trade and health challenges
  • Alternative economic paths to social justice
  • State, parliamentary and civil society struggles for health
  • Research evidence, monitoring and research to policy links in advancing health equity

Block bookings have been made for delegates at the Tropicana Hotel, the venue for the conference (see http://www.hotel.co.za/tropicana-hotel.html). The rates are ZAR 429/night bed and breakfast single room and ZAR 329 per person bed and breakfast sharing. Dinner is ZAR 95 per person. If you would like as a self sponsored delegate to stay at the
Tropicana please notify us of this in your feedback. Please do not notify the Tropicana directly at this stage. We will provide in our reply email information on the steps you should take. If you plan to stay at another hotel please do let us know.
