Call for papers: The Journal of African Travel-Writing

1. The Journal of African Travel-Writing seeks scholarly essays and book reviews related to African travel-writing. JATW publishes a wide range of materials, including true narratives, primary materials, fiction, and poetry. However, at this time the editors have a particular interest in receiving analyses of texts. The texts dealt with might, for instance, be literary, political, or historical, but the possibilities are certainly not limited to these.

2. The Journal of African Travel-Writing will sponsor a panel at the Seventh Annual Eighteenth- and Nineteenth-Century British Women Writers Conference, to be held at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on March 26-28, 1998. Inquiries and one- to two-page abstracts related to women writers and African travel may be directed to JATW or to the conference organizers. The deadline for abstracts is September 30, 1997. Papers accepted for inclusion in the panel will also be considered for publication in JATW.

Further information about the journal and the conference is available at JATW's web-site: http://www.unc.edu/~ottotwo
