Customs Formalities Applicable to Tourists in The Republic of Niger

I. DUTY - FREE ALLOWANCE:

All tourists over 15 years of age may bring with them free of duty, the following goods only if these goods are carried in accompanied baggage:

- 200 cigarettes or 100 small cigars or 25 large cigars or 250 grams of tobacco.
- 1 bottle of wine.
- 1/2 liter eau de toilette.
- 1 bottle of perfume containing not more that 1/4 of a liter.
- Personal apparel and clothing, whether worn or not, even though apparently new, can be imported completely free of duty.

With the exception of personal apparel and clothing, any quantities in excess of the above will be subject to the National Customs Regulations in force.

II. TEMPORARY IMPORTATION:

The equipments and objects listed below may be imported temporarily of duty:

- 1 record player with 10 records.
- 1 radio receiver.
- 1 tape recorder with 2 magnetic tapes.
- 1 portable typewriter.
- 1 tent with camping accessories.
- 1 child's perambulator.
- 1 film camera with 10 rolls of film.
1 portable musical instrument.
- 1 iron.
- 1 pair of binoculars
- 1 canoe or kayak (less than 5M 50 long).
- 1 tent with camping accessories.
- Personal sports and fishing equipments.
- A small number of electrical appliances for medical or toilet purposes.
- 500 grams of personal jewelry.

III. OTHER AUTHORIZED IMPORTS:

A tourist may temporarily import a vehicle if the vehicle is covered by triptych or if the tourist has a customs carnet. These carnets are issued by the responsible bodies in the tourist's home country. In the absence of these documents, cars may be admitted temporarily under the simplified procedure.

Vehicles must have international insurance.

IV. EXPORTS:

Souvenirs may be exported free of duty up to a limit in quantities and values deemed reasonable by the customs officers.

CANCELLATION OF FEE & AUTHORIZATION TO FILM AND TO PHOTOGRAPH

As of January 1989, there will be no fee or authorization required to film or take pictures of photographic views. However, we prohibit filming and photographing naked people, as well as buildings, places and public edifices within the jurisdiction of the National Defense and Civil Military Aviation.

Moreover, it is required for those who would like to produce documentary or commercial films to contact the Ministry of Information for further and necessary directions.
