ADDW Workshop Module One Evaluation Questionnaire

ADDW Workshop Module One Evaluation Questionnaire

With the end of the first module, we are half way into this distance training workshop. We would like you to pause for a few moments and share with us your most thoughtful and candid reflections to help polish both the remaining section of the program and our plans for next years program. Your comments will be given full consideration by the organizing Faculty and the Rockefeller foundation.

Program Format: This years module one curriculum was divided into four units with an introduction and a conclusion. The review of the video tapes was scheduled in the afternoon while morning sessions were devoted to the teleconference, internet interactions and the review of a sample of participant proposals.

1. In general, how effective do you think this format was for the maximum development of your skills ? In responding, please comment on the time of day, length of sessions and week days chosen for the particular units.

2. Are there any format changes you would suggest that would make the program better in the years to come ?

3. Administration: Were there any problems you encountered in the administration of the program which could have been avoided ? How smoothly were your pre-program concerns addressed ? What suggestions do you have for next years program ?

4. Video Tapes: The videos were developed to expose all of you to a number of specific demographic research areas and distinguished Professors in the area. Please, consider each session separately and module one as a whole. How successful were the videos in introducing you to demographic research ?

5. Which of the video lecture stand out in your mind as being exemplary in any way, and why?

6. Other general comments on presenters/video sessions?

7. Teleconferences: The units in module one were designed to be complementary to one another, and to impart the foundations of dissertation writing. How successful were the teleconferences in introducing you to the workshop and pacing-up program activities ?

8. Were the various participants and staff information posted on the Web useful in boosting the phone talks ? Are there any changes you would make in the teleconference sessions ? Which ones were most useful ?

9. Assignments: Were the various homework assignments useful in applying your knowledge ? Are there any changes you would make in the assignments themselves ? Which ones were most useful?

10. How would you rate the reading list and the exercises ?

Please, provide additional comments on course instruction.

11. Web and Internet tools (listserv, chat box, PennMoo, Homepage, e-mail etc...): Several internet tools were developed to support this distance training program. Though all of them were included in the workshop design, the effectiveness of each of them for the purpose of this workshop, varies with participant familiarity to the tool, suitability of the tool for the task at hand and -- perhaps -- the ways in which all of the above tools have been developed and implemented.

12. Please, rate the use and implementation of each internet supporting instrument, and make suggestions for additional activities which would have been useful.
