The Centre ®quatoria is a research center, library, and collection
of archives, annex guesthouse, specialized in the languages, cultures,
and the (pre-colonial and colonial) history of sub-Saharan Africa, with
special emphasis on the peoples of the central Congo basin.

Northwestern
Founded by Melville J. Herskovits in 1948, the Program of African Studies
(PAS) at Northwestern University is the first center of its kind at a major
research university in the United States. PAS is joining with other regional
Africanist training centers to increasingly emphasize a cross-institutional,
transcontinental focus on the African world.

Afroamerican and African Studies
The Center for Afroamerican and African Studies (CAAS) functions as
an academic department and as three area studies programs. It has its own
undergraduate program, courses, and faculty. It is also a home for interdisciplinary
area studies research. It helps promote scholarship and teaching in African
Studies, African American Studies, and Afro-Caribbean Studies throughout
the University of Michigan.
Tulane U. African & African
Diaspora Studies
The Program in African and African Diaspora Studies offers students
an interdisciplinary course of study that may lead to either a Major or
a Minor. The Program supports students who choose to study the languages
of Africa and its Diaspora and is particularly interested in encouraging
the study of less commonly taught languages such as Yoruba, Kiswahili,
